Layers and unexpected combinations are your best friend when it comes to modest fashion. They add depth, texture, and versatility to your wardrobe. Instead of the usual, try something unique: switch to a crop top styled with a formal button-up and palazzo pants, or opt for a sleeveless mini dress styled on top a black leatherette skinny leggings/pants with a blazer or cropped cardigan. These combinations can turn your look from provocative to chic while maintaining modesty.

Matthew 5:28 says, "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Dressing provocatively can exploit others' weaknesses and lead to more sin, failing to set a good moral standard for the younger generation. As the author of this Article, I grew up in a Jamaican culture, even though I am also of Ghanaian, Cuban, and Chinese heritage. My mother's homeland is what we were most familiar with, being in a single-parent home. I used to struggle with intense self-identity issues. Thinking that showing skin wasn't even a second thought; I assumed this was the way women were supposed to dress. But knowing better now, and with the Holy Spirit's conviction, I've learned that modesty is not about condemnation but about setting a standard and being a role model. As Romans 8:1 says, "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." It's about showcasing love and Godly character in a way that looks different from today's culture.
My journey wasn't overnight; it took many years of God's patience and gentleness with me. Through this, I healed from traumas and allowed God's authentic design in me to be revealed. I struggled with sexuality, gender conflict, pride, anxiety, and shame, but since accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior in April 2015, I've been set free. My confidence and new discovery of modesty, honoring to our eternal Father, are not religious but a daily growing progress. Abiding in the Father helps me stay on the right path, and I want to inspire generations that we are in this walk together as iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17).
